Exceptional Jean Royère straw marquetry pieces presented alongside a selection of his furniture. Jean Royère approached his metier with the spirit of unfettered freedom. His imagination, receptivity and curiosity enabled an all-embracing view of the creative context of his time. The straw marquetry pieces reflect his approach: the sophisticated technique he drew from eighteenth-century French cabinetmaking; but with a simplified decorative motif consisting of dynamic zigzag lines. These pieces were part of a large commission that Royère carried out at the request of Mr. and Mrs. Goldenberg in the early 1950s.
