Tynell's aim was to create a warm, natural light working in brass, wood and glass. His shades and ceiling lamps provide a luminous yet indirect light, while his signature perforated metal surfaces, give his works a poetic dimension. In parallel with the Taito lamps, which were sold in stores, Tynell created numerous commission pieces, including the lighting for the UN headquarters in New York.
In many cases, Tynell furnished entire buildings – such as the MKT Seminar building in Espoo, Finland built from 1950 to 1953. Among the objects designed and created for this purpose is this pendant lamp with a perforated brass body and double suspension, which Angela Weber Möbel is presenting at Design Miami/ Basel 2021.

Paavo Tynell (1890-1973) was one of the most influential Finnish designers, especially in the field of lighting design. He began his career as a blacksmith in Helsinki, while studying at the University of Industrial Arts. Together with four partners, he founded the company Taito Oy in 1918, which produced sophisticated interior fittings and lighting mainly in brass. In the 1930s, Tynell began collaborating with numerous architects, including Alvar Aalto.Tynell's aim was to create a warm, natural light working in brass, wood and glass.
