Art.DECO.Shanghai is a contemporary design art gallery founded in 2019 by design artist Naihan Li and lacquer artist, Runda Zhou. The gallery’s aim is to present works which mediate between contemporary design and traditional Chinese fine craft. Lacquer, which has an 8,000-year-old history in China, is a main focus, due to its sustainable nature and its rich expressivity. The works exhibit a distinguished, unique character of their own, while maintaining a ‘spiritual echo’ to the past, by way of its attention to rich, luxurious materials, and its embrace of technological intervention.
