June’s can’t-miss design events

This month, the design community is gearing up for some of the industry’s biggest events. Read on for BOH’s monthly calendar highlights, including conferences, trade shows, showhouses and design discussions.

Salone del Mobile Milano
Milan | June 7–12
Postponed from its original April date, Salone del Mobile returns for its 60th edition this year, with exhibits and programming focusing on the theme of sustainability. The event will include EuroCucina—the fair’s kitchen biennial, featuring new launches and technology from brands in the field—as well as, after a three-year hiatus, SaloneSatellite, which highlights emerging designers through a special exhibition, “Designing for our Future Selves.” For more info, click here.

Lake Forest Design Social
Lake Forest, Illinois | June 8
The second of four pop-ups this year, the Lake Forest edition of Design Social will be held at the Armour House at Lake Forest Academy, in an event that offers designers and editors the chance to connect with the artisans and makers behind locally based textile, wallcovering and home furnishings brands. For this installment, look out for a panel discussion led by the team from Veranda, as well as a conversation led by BOH editor in chief Kaitlin Petersen with Chicago-based textile maker Kathryn Faull of Maresca and two Michigan-based Design Social newcomers—the wallpaper designers behind Eso Studio and watercolor artist Kelly Ventura. D&D Spring Market
New York | June 8
The Decoration & Design Building is opening its doors for this year’s Spring Market, welcoming interior designers to join leading luxury home furnishings brands for networking events, panel discussions and open houses. This year, panel events include The Art of Outdoor Entertaining—a conversation with Bronson van Wyck, Suzanne Kasler and Lewis Miller moderated by Galerie editor Jill Sieracki—along with Shared Visions: Bringing Design Collaborations to Life, featuring interior designer Kathryn Scott, builder/contractor Michael Daddio, architect Alexander Gorlin and interior designer Judy Dunne, moderated by editor and publisher Suzanne Slesin. NeoCon
Chicago | June 13–15
Held at The Mart, this year’s NeoCon event will bring together more than 400 companies with new products in the commercial design sphere, serving a range of sectors such as hospitality, health care, education, residential and public space. Special programming will include keynote addresses by design icons Bruce Mau and Shashi Caaan, a talk from Todd Heiser and Lily Diego of Gensler Chicago on The Mart’s evolution and an IIDA Equity Council Roundtable featuring several industry leaders in a conversation led by CEO Cheryl S. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by all the financial elements that go into creating and growing your firm. On Wednesday, June 8, Monique Nicole Holmes, an interior designer and business coach who focuses on emerging women in design, will present a BOH workshop about budgeting, financial planning and investment strategies. The two-hour virtual event is fee for BOH Insiders.

Design Miami/Basel
Basel, Switzerland | June 14–19
Held at Basel’s Messeplatz, the 16th edition of Design Miami/Basel is curated by incoming director Maria Cristina Didero around the theme of The Golden Age: Rooted in the Past. The combination of in-person and online programming includes more than 50 exhibitor presentations, a solo show by Misha Kahn, a selection of rare 20th-century design pieces at Morentz Gallery and Galerie Matthieu Richard and an installation by FAINA Gallery called “Stepping on Ukrainian Soil.” For more info, click here.

The Los Angeles Antiques, Art + Design Show
Glendale, California | June 17–19
For its 19th-annual edition, the Los Angeles Show’s three-day event will host 40 exhibitors of antiques and decorative arts from across the U.S., Canada and Europe. The selection of pieces will date back to the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries, as well as include 20th-century modern objects. For more info, click here.

Dallas Total Home & Gift Market
Dallas | June 22–28
The Total Home & Gift Market provides retailers and manufacturers with the opportunity to survey a variety of offerings from categories including home decor, gifts, gourmet, housewares, accessories and lighting. TEFAF Maastricht
Maastricht, The Netherlands | June 25–30
Presenting works of fine art, antiques and design from more than 275 dealers hailing from over 20 different countries, this year’s edition of TEFAF Maastricht will cover traditional categories such as old master paintings, antiques and classical antiquities as well as modern and contemporary art, photography, jewelry, 20th-century design and works on paper.
