WITH DESIGN MIAMI/’S summer iteration in Basel cancelled, it had seemed a long wait until December. To support galleries during this difficult hiatus, Design Miami/ is launching a new online site today, showcasing over 800 pieces from fifty-one international galleries. Pieces available range from works on paper starting at US$100 to exceptional historic works like a ‘6×6 Demountable House’ by Jean Prouvé listed at US$1,500,000.
Galleries offering curated selections from their catalogues exclusively to the Design Miami/ Shop platform range from Cristina Grajales Gallery in New York to Southern Guild in Cape Town and Dansk Møbelkunst Gallery located in Copenhagen and Paris. We’ve spotted a beautiful bronze table frame inspired by bats, by Diego Giacometti, at Bailly Gallery, a spectacular ‘Magodi’ vessel by Zizipho Poswa, with Southern Guild, inspired by the sculptural forms of traditional African hairstyles and this fantastical see-through acrylic ‘TPC2’ chair by the young French designer, Théophile Blandet, whose solo show The Spiky Friendly Collection is upcoming at Functional Art Gallery in Berlin.
Collectors can focus their search by material, product type, era or gallery, with curated sections offering guided selections of Brazilian Modernism, French Mid-Century and Contemporary Ceramics. Two other sections offer Masterpieces and new Studio Design, direct from artists’ studios. There is also an online bookshop. And in recognition of the crisis which has precipitated development of this very 21st century way of operating, Design Miami/ has worked with Anava Projects to curate a collection of over 100 limited-edition and one-of-a-kind drawings and illustrations by international emerging and established designers and architects. 100% of the proceeds from these sales will go to GlobalGiving’s Coronavirus Relief Fund, a respected international initiative that directs resources to the evolving frontlines of the crisis around the world.
