This year’s Design Talks program runs between opening day and December 3rd, so be sure to check out the full schedule here. As a teaser, we’d like to shine a light on the four exciting Design Talks happening on-site at the fair on November 30th.

#1. Designing New Immersive, Human-Centric Experiences, presented by Audi

For the futurists out there, Tara Rush, Audi of America's SVP and CMO, talks with digital artist-designer Andrés Reisinger, Audi Interior Design Team Leader Immo Redeker, and architect Arthur Casas about new approaches to immersive experiences, both online and IRL. (Nov. 30th, 12pm-1pm ET)

#2. We Are All Different, and This Is Our Defining Quality! A Conversation With Gaetano Pesce

For die-hard design devotees, our own Maria Cristina Didero interviews legendary Italian architect-designer Gaetano Pesce, whose dreamy collaboration with Bottega Veneta is being promoted at this year's fair. Don’t miss what this 83-year-old icon has to say about freedom, individuality, and lessons learned over a half century of shaping design’s cutting-edge. (Nov. 30th, 2pm-3pm ET)

#3. Multidisciplinary Minds: A$AP Rocky in Conversation with Charley Vezza, presented by GUFRAM

For music fans and cross-disciplinary culture consumers alike, we have two can’t-miss conversations for you. The first includes A$AP Rocky, the multi-hyphenate artist, designer, rapper, and music producer, joined by Charley Vezza, Global Creative Orchestrator for radical design brand GUFRAM. Didero moderates the discussion as they reflect the role that lateral thinking plays in contemporary aesthetics. (Nov. 30th, 3:45pm-4:45pm ET)

#4. Erykah Badu and Roberto Lugo on Kintsugi, presented by R & Company

Our last talk on the 30th features renowned musician Eyrkah Badu one-on-one with red-hot ceramics artist Roberto Lugo, whose super cool Village Potter Bodega can be shopped both at the fair and on designmiami.com. You’ll want to take notes as this talented, dynamic duo explores the Japanese concept of kintsugi—the art of repairing pottery with gold to celebrate the beauty of imperfections—as well as the importance of artistic practices that prioritize pride in community. (Nov. 30th, 5:30pm-6:30pm ET)

Upon arrival to this year’s fair, visitors will be greeted by Rock | Roll, a vibrant outdoor installation designed by Miami-based architect Germane Barnes and curated by Anava Projects. As winner of the competitive 2022 Miami Design District Annual Neighborhood Commission, Barnes has created a multi-scale installation inspired by the spirited visual language of Miami Carnival and designed as a tribute to the BIPOC communities who have contributed to Miami’s polyethnic culture—from the city’s earliest foundations to today. The project is on view throughout the Miami Design District’s public spaces through the new year, while a special iteration of the project will be presented at Design Miami/ for the duration of the fair.

This year’s Collectors Lounge promises to be a chic hideaway for all those lucky attendees with VIP credentials. For its second year partnering with Design Miami/, AIG Private Client Group has commissioned Miami-based Alexis Cogul Lleonart of Doo Architecture and New Orleans-based designer Bradley L Bowers to collaborate on the lounge interior. Highlights include Bower’s prized paper light sculptures and a suite of classic furniture designs from B&B Italia—including Mario Bellini’s 1970s-era Camaleonda sofas and Le Bambole armchairs, which have attracted a passionate new generation of admirers in recent years.

Transcendence by Nada Debs, presented by Kohler

For this year’s fair, Kohler has commissioned Beirut-based artist-designer Nada Debs to create Transcendence, a bespoke, three-room immersive hammam experience that champions inclusivity, sustainability, heritage, and innovation. Working with the Kohler WasteLAB team, Debs designed the installation’s tiles to evoke the aesthetic of traditional hammams using remnant materials that would otherwise end up in a landfill. Transcendence is sure to give visitors a rejuvenating lift.

Alta Gioielleria, presented by Dolce&Gabbana

Italian fashion house Dolce&Gabbana makes its Design Miami/ debut with an exhibition of the brand’s masterful Alta Gioielleria jewelry collection, celebrating the extraordinary skills of the goldsmiths, engravers, sculptors, setters, and chisellers that craft each piece. Elevating jewelry to an art form, the collection represents a marriage of fine workmanship, unique forms, and the most splendid diamonds and gems. It’ll be a delicious feast for the eyes.

Returning to Design Miami/ as the official university partner, Savannah College of Art and Design has teamed up with the ceramics experts at Cerámica Suro to debut vibrant collections of glazed tiles designed by SCAD alumni. To develop the collections, SCAD grads Nicolas Barrera (2018), Lauren Clay (2004), Gonzalo Hernandez (2019), Cory Imig (2008), Abel Macias (2002), and Nikita Nagpal (2019) were invited to the Guadalajara-based, family-run ceramics atelier to collaborate with the artisans. Notably, Marcelo Suro—son of Cerámica Suro’s founder and also a SCAD grad (2022)—has designed the SCAD scenography, which will change everyday to offer up a new tile collection for your delectation.
