Description

Carpenters Workshop Gallery

Belonging to Virgil Abloh’s Aqua Alta collection (meaning “high water” in Italian), this bench was first shown in Venice, where floods inundate much of the city during high tide in the fall and winter months. Seemingly submerged, the bench reflects on the urgency of rising sea levels due to climate change, while its form references Shaker furniture and the mid-twentieth-century designer Paul McCobb.
