Candle Holder Stack - Jackson, a Doctor Moreau of ceramic design, continues her splicing of zoomorphic forms into playfully sinister sculptures. She tells her own kinds of stories on the candy-colored surfaces of her ceramic sculptures, revisiting fables, myths, and archetypes with dizzying and wild polarities. Both beautiful and beastly, her work entertains the question of what is serious and what is simply, a joke.Here we find the imagery of her work at the crossroads of high-brow and low-brow, comedy and tragedy, the sacred and profane. Room57 presents a candle holder of stacked forms: yellow cake, white frosting and rainbow sprinkles; an axed-down tree stump; a creeper witch shoel; more gruesome fingers now in possession of that cake slice. You must expect Jackson’s teetering totem to transform at any moment. Like all her work, its spiritual significance is mutable, yet to be revealed.
