Born in Hawaii to a Japanese émigré family, Toshiko Takaezu’s ceramics show the imprint of both her Japanese and American backgrounds. Made using traditional pottery techniques, these Closed Form sculptures—for which she is best known—vary in scale, shape, color, and texture, but together portray her interests in abstraction.
