Macklowe Gallery

The iconic Tiffany Linenfold Shade playfully mimics the pleats and ruffles of a silk lampshade. The Linenfold carving technique originated in Europe in the 15th century and quickly became one of the enduring styles of relief carving. More durable and luminous than its fabric counterpart, it does not fade or tear. The 19th century saw a resurgence in Medieval arts, including linenfold. Tiffany created Linenfold Lamps out of a multitude of pressed glass jewels.
