Tiffany Studios New York Bamboo Table Lamp $115,000>
Macklowe Gallery

Before designing his iconic Bamboo Lamp, Louis Comfort Tiffany had long considered bamboo one of the essential elements of global design. Drawn to its versatility, strength, and beauty, Tiffany referenced two primary sources: the Japanese arrow bamboo that he grew in his Laurelton Hall greenhouse and his research into bamboo’s representation in Japanese ink painting. Evident in the lamp’s background, the white evokes both the mist of a mountain bamboo forest and the white of a rice paper scroll. The refined simplicity of the Bamboo Lamp facilitates its placement in any modern interior.
