Tanya Aguiñiga is a LA-based artist, designer, and activist. She was born in San Diego but grew up in Tijuana. As a child, she travelled several hours a day to cross the border to attend school. She went on to earn an MFA in furniture design from Rhode Island School of Design. Her work can be found in the collections of LACMA, Museum of Arts & Design, Museum of Fine Arts Houston, and Mint Museum Charlotte.
Aguiñiga’s unique works represent both the unraveling and flourishing of identities in flux. Simultaneously torn and woven, they draw from sources ranging from feminine strength and intuition to the trauma associated with living in the United States as a person of color.
