In the late 1960s, Wendell Castle took the chance to develop a new body of work using similar ideas from his wood furniture. He turned to gel-coated auto-paint and fiberglass, creating vibrant functional works in plastic. The "Sluggo" floor lamp, in blue metallic auto body paint on gel-coated, fiberglass-reinforced plastic, was designed by Castle in 1969. The work highlights his revolutionary approach to American furniture design.
