Shaped like a bird, this flower vase was created by Sugai Shozo in patinated bronze. It comes with its original fitted kiri-wood tomobako storage box, which is inscribed on the outside "Flower Vase for a Single Stem" and signed on the inside Shozo with red seal reading Sugai. The stamped on the bottom reads Shozo.

Sugai, a native of Yamagata Prefecture, was born during the Meiji era (1868-1912) and entered the world of bronze casting in 1915. He exhibited widely at national exhibitions in the 1950s and 60s and received many local and national awards.
