Description

Moderne Gallery

Toyonaga's unique, hand-crafted ceramic sculptures emerge from the depths of the earth and from the depths of his soul. By creating unique forms unlike anything the viewer has experienced before, the artist underscores the inherent friction between man and nature. His aim, in his words, is to “feed that conflict.” This piece is a one-of-a-kind.

Toyonaga was born in Matsuyama, Japan, and earned his BA in psychology from the National University of Shinshu. He moved to New York City in 1986. His clay sculptures take form as he works, without plans or drawings.
