This black glazed ceramic bowl was produced by Roger Capron, circa 1960. It is signed on the bottom. Born in Vincennes, Capron (1922-2006) was a French designer and ceramicist, known especially for his ceramic-topped table. He worked as an art teacher for a few years before moving to Vallauris, France, to found his own ceramics workshop in 1946. His atelier and the scale of its production continued to grow through the 1970s, even as Capron himself worked on one-of-a-kind pieces.
