This chiseled and gilt bronze with white gold, rock crystal jellyfish-shaped chandelier was created by Régis Mathieu. The contours and slender filaments become a pretext for decorative chasing. Like so many sculpted alveoli, the suckers offer refuge to cut rock crystal drops. Here the rich strength of the gilt bronze is combined with the subtle transparency of crystal. Artisan, designer, expert, entrepreneur, and collector Régis Mathieu directs his family’s company, specializing in important historic restorations and contemporary reproductions of antique pieces. Some of Mathieu’s most notable chandelier restoration projects include the Louvre, Opéra National de Paris, Palace of Versailles, and Palazzo Farnese in Rome. Clients of the contemporary arm of the company include Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Cartier, Hermès, Prada, Van Cleef & Arpels, and Guerlain.
