Paco Pakdoust and John Murray Oust $25,000>

Description

Oust is based one of Cape Town-based painter John Murray’s abstract oils on canvas, depicting cut-outs, fragments of found objects and trivia in the process of forming and disintegrating. Expert carpet-maker Paco Pakdoust has translated the oil painting into hand-knotted wool and natural silk for a series of limited-edition art carpets created especially for Southern Guild. Paco oversees all aspects of production, from the purchasing of raw materials, dyeing, spinning and weaving of the wool, to the actual making of each piece. The wool is sourced from Tibet, New Zealand and Mongolia, and the rugs are woven in workshops established in India, Nepal and Pakistan. Other natural fabrics ranging from silk, linen, hemp, nettle, bamboo or a combination thereof is often used to create textures unique to each design.
