Thomsen Gallery

This one-of-a-kind rectangular basket was created by Oguni Kimiko to facilitate ikebana flower arrangements. It was formed in bamboo and rattan using parallel-line construction and twisting, wrapping, and knotting.

Oguni Kimiko (1947-2004) was celebrated as one of Japan’s most promising female bamboo artists before her premature death in 2004 at the age of 57. Her work is in the collection of the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco.
