Inspired by his ongoing research into ancient Scotland's history, Nick Ross designed the Arcadia Club Chair in 2019. Crafted in solid, quarter-sawn oak, the understated design is based on a process of intersecting thick sheets of wood that is common to traditional, vernacular constructions in the Scottish Highlands. The chair measures 56 x 55 x 80cm, with a seat height of 43 cm. It is an open edition made to order and can be customized in other woods.
Nick Ross is a Scottish-Swedish designer based in Stockholm. He studied Product Design at Grays School of Art in Aberdeen and earned his MA in Interior Architecture & Furniture Design at Konstfack in Stockholm.
In 2014, he launched his eponymous studio, through which he explores the complexities of history, creating design objects driven by historical investigations—with a keen interest in the facts and happenings that have determined specific cultural balances. Ross's work aim both to question pre-existing notions and to create bridges between yesterday and today.
