Mathieu Matégot and Georges Jouve "Patte d'ours” Ashtray
This Patte d'Ours Ashtray is a unique object created through the historic collaboration between Mathieu Matégot and Georges Jouve in the 1950s. This design is referenced in Georges Jouve Céramiste by Michel Faré, published in 1964 (pg. 70); Jean Prouvé by Galleries Jousse, Seguin, and Enrico Navarra, published in 1998 (pg. 172); Mathieu Matégot by Jousse Entreprise, published in 2003 (pg. 89–90, 150); and Georges Jouves by Philippe Jousse and Galerie Jousse Entreprise, published in 2005 (pg. 48–49, 167).
Born in Hungary, Matégot (1910-2001) was one of the most renowned French designers of the 1950s. Born in Fontenay-sous-Bois, Jouve (1910-1964) is among the most iconic 20th-century French ceramists.
