Unique. Marlène Huissoud’s practice exists at the intersections of design, art, architecture, science, and material innovation. The daughter of a beekeeper, Marlène's upbringing in the rural French Alpes led her to explore other insect-made materials. Her 'Frozen' series celebrates silkworms' metamorphosis. Marlène created the mould using silkworm cocoons which she then cast in metal. The sculptural bench's variegated surface pushes the limits of functionality and highlights the possibilities for experimental design in society. Her work as been exhibited worldwide in major institutions such as Centre Pompidou, France; the Victoria & Albert Museum, UK; the Design Museum, Spain; Artipelag Museum, Sweden; and MAK Vienna, Austria.
