Designed by Marisol and produced in a numbered edition of 100 by the Genuine Electric Co—a division of the Beautiful Bag & Box Co of Philadelphia—this heavy, 18ct gold ring features the form of a female head with a long thin face, green demantoid garnet eyes, and a pointed nose. It is a self-portrait of the artist, her braided hair coiled over her ears. This ring is number 53 in the edition.
Born Maria Sol Escobar, Marisol was a French sculptor of Venezuelan heritage who worked in New York City. Andy Warhol described her as “the first girl artist with glamour,” while for Rolando Peña she was the “undisputed queen of Pop Art.” Her work has only recently been rediscovered.
