—Marcin Rusak

Marcin Rusak has donated Flower Monster I, a limited edition digital illustration reflecting on humankind’s relationship to nature—an ongoing theme in the designer’s work—as seen through the lens of the floral industry. Only five prints are available; each is signed and measures A4.

Rusak adds, "Flower Monster symbolizes the floral industry’s demands: client satisfaction, retailer requests, grower needs, transportation processes, laws, and regulations. Our relationship with nature is unbalanced, and, in the case of flowers, our purchasing habits are often dictated by a consumption-oriented calendar that pivots around marketing slogans. I want to imagine a scenario in which the plants we buy are grown locally and selected among species that thrive naturally within the climate we live in. This could unveil the underrated potential of many forgotten species. At the same time, this would encourage garden centers to sell what is needed and not what marketers have predicted or imposed."

Dividing his time between London and Warsaw, Rusak is an artist and multidisciplinary designer interested in ideas of value, ephemerality, and aesthetics. Specializing in storytelling, process, and material investigation, his work incorporates research, objects, installations, and visual creations to explore overlooked details of our lives.

As the son and grandson of flower growers, Rusak has long been fascinated by natural sources of inspiration and decoration. Engaging them in his creative process began by reusing waste to investigate new decorative elements within everyday objects and has led to a rich body of work.

Marcin Rusak Flower Monster I $200

"Our consumption habits have distanced us so much from a natural path that we’ve ended up with the current crisis. We need to realize that the way plants and flowers are produced and perceived has become unnatural." —Marcin Rusak
