Kumiko Inui has donated Manga, Recover from Disaster, a signed, four-framed comic work from the series Small Architects Go. According to Inui, the comic is intended to express a sense of hope. “It depicts people as the Corona lockdown is being lifted. These disasters are different, but I sent it because I wanted to share that even if a disaster occurs, [we] can gradually regain [our] daily life.”

 

She details the content as follows: Frame 1: The park opened for the first time in a long time. There are quite a few people. Frame 2: More than ever, people who come to tan have an atmosphere of work. / Even wearing masks, they're naked... Frame 3: Those who have fun picnics in the park ...are having fun overcoming the [situation]. / Folding chair gives the comfort of a living room. / Folding cart carries not only luggage but also children. Frame 4: One-touch tents are also popular. However, some people really use it as a sleeping tool. / He may be tired of teleworking…

 

Japanese architect Kumiko Inui was born in Osaka in 1969. She graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Architecture in 1992. She went on to complete the master's program at Yale School of Architecture in 1996. From 1996 to 2000, she worked at Jun Aoki & Associates. She established the Office of Kumiko Inui in 2000. She served as an associate professor at Tokyo University of the Arts from 2011 to 2016; since that time, she has worked as a professor at Yokohama National University’s Faculty of Urban Innovation, Department of Architecture and Urban Culture (YGSA).
