Description

Hostler Burrows

Kati Tuominen-Niittylä created this ceramic object in 2020. Tuominen-Niittylä is an internationally renowned ceramic artist living and working in Helsinki, where she is a member of the Arabia Art Department Society. She takes a multi-directional approach to the medium of ceramics, alternating between wheel-throwing, casting, and hand-building. She creates objects that reference traditional craft through silhouettes reminiscent of functional vessels and basketry, they are executed with pure artistic intent. Elegantly thin walled with a rich surface texture, Tuominen-Niittylä’s neutrally hued sculptures exude an architectural lightness that seems to defy physics./p>
