This bronze figure from Justine’s current solo exhibition, Mage, depicts a trigger-happy gamer, transfixed by his pursuit of digital demons. As with all her sculptures, it is an amalgam of pop-culture references stitched together to create mythological characters embroiled in personal struggle and transformation. Mage delves into the tangled transition from adolescence to adulthood, in the process tentatively defining the zeitgeist of Generation Z. It is a progression from Justine’s critically acclaimed previous series, Tainted, which traversed themes of identity related to early adolescence.
