José Zanine Caldas Center Table $25,000>
Mercado Moderno

This table was created by José Zanine Caldas in the late-1970s. Expressive and brutalist in character, It is a one-of-a-kind made of reclaimed wood from the burnt Atlantic Forest.

Born on the southern coast of Bahia, Caldas (1919-2001) was a self-taught designer and architect. In 1948, he co-founded Móveis Artisticos Z, a furniture company dedicated to modernist principles. Not long after, his work shifted; drawing inspiration from Bahian artisans, he began to create sculptural functional objects from felled trees./p>
