Protopunk is a collection of furniture and objects designed by Joost Van Bleiswijk in 2016. Each piece is handmade with thick slabs of steel roughly cut with a torch and then welded together and painted. The creative process unfolds in an instinctive and gestural way. The shapes are bold and the lines are strong, but the collection maintains a joyful vibe. The designs in the collection can be customized. The Protopunk Clock measures 76 x 44 x 183 cm. This design is an open edition made to order.

A prolific Dutch designer, van Bleiswijk grew up in Delft and studied at the Design Academy Eindhoven—where he met his future partner, Kiki van Eijk. From his early famous No Glue No Screw collection, to the latest Mecchanic and Protopunk series, van Bleiswijk has always used bold shapes and strong lines to create daring new designs, defying usefulness and striving for audacious creativity.
Van Bleiswijk’s collaborators include brands like MOOOI, Bernhardt Design, ICE Carpets, Secondome, and Ahrend. In recent years, he has designed for collectors, companies, and institutions, such as The Rijksmuseum, Design Academy Eindhoven, Venice Projects, Zuiderzee Museum, and Noord Brabants Museum. His work has been exhibited in private galleries and museums around the world, from Basel, London, Paris, Milan, and Venice, to New York, Tokyo, Moscow, and Holon.
