Composed of solid wood, the Pressed Wood Side Table was designed by Johannes Hemann in 2020. The design draws on the traditional bentwood technique—but with a twist. By adding pressure to freshly cut wood, Hemann is able to divide the wood's fibers, which allows him to sculpt various shapes. The design is an open edition made to order. But thanks to the handmade nature of its production, each piece is a one-of-a-kind. The design measures 60 x 60 x 60 cm.
German designer Johannes Hemann’s eponymous studio was launched in 2011. His work is characterized by an organic, process driven aesthetic—often teetering on the edge of dreamlike. According to Hemann, his designs aim to “translate the complexity and diversity of nature into objects and products.”
Hemann has exhibited broadly throughout Europe, Japan, and the US, presenting at prestigious galleries, institutions, and events like Victor Hunt Gallery, Aram Gallery, Mint Gallery, Trapholt Museum, Design Museum Holon, ICFF New York, and Design Days Dubai, among others. He lives and works in Bad Sooden-Allendorf, Germany.
