Description

Nilufar Gallery

This one-of-a-kind bookshelf was most surely realized upon commission for a house that was entirely furnished by Joaquim Tenreiro. The bookshelf comes with an iron and bronze sculpture of a fish, an example of Tenreiro's work as a painter and sculptor. The price excludes taxes, shipping, and crating.

Tenreiro (1906-1992) was born in Portugal into a family of woodworkers and emigrated to Rio de Janeiro in the 1920s. He played a key role in disseminating modernist design ideas within Brazil as well as defining Brazilian design to the rest of the world. Oscar Niemeyer was one of his most high-profile champions and clients.
