Macklowe Gallery

Featuring the artist’s signature crescent wave motif, these giltwood-framed armchairs by Joan Busquets were custom made for the famed Spanish architect Antoni Gaudi’s Palacio Guel. Born in Barcelona, Busquets (1874-1949) was an architect and interior designer who made tremendous contributions to Modernisme, Spain’s expression of the Art Nouveau movement at the turn of the 20th century. Busquets was a maverick who frequently incorporated motifs of flora and fauna with Rococo sensibilities. He is remembered for his elegant interventions in the homes of the elite, not only in Barcelona but also in Madrid, the Caribbean, and Central and South America.
