This Dents Grecques Coffee Table was created by Jean Royère circa 1955. It features gilt metal and comblanchien limestone. It was acquired from the first owners, M. et Mme. B. in Paris. Royère is handwritten under the top.
Born into a wealthy French family, Royère (1902-1981) embarked on his design career rather late. In 1931, at age 29, he went to learn his new profession in the cabinetmaking workshops of the Faubourg Saint-Antoine in Paris. Just a few years later, he was deemed an international design sensation—a stature he would hold until the 1970s. His clients included luminaries like King Farouk, King Hussein of Jordan, the Shah of Iran, among many more.
