This 88-page book is the catalogue published in conjunction with the 2013 Jean Girel exhibition at Pierre Marie Giraud. The text is by Pascale Nobécourt.
Born in Savoy, Girel is a French ceramic artist who lives and works in Cluny. As a 14 year-old boy, he first learned his craft from a local potter. But after studying in Paris, he initially pursued the visual arts. In 1975 however, after discovering relics of the Song Dynasty, he decided to work exclusively in ceramics. Blending Western techniques with the age-old ceramic traditions from Asia, Girel is known for his unique clay mixtures, glazes, and firing procedures. In 2000, he was awarded the French title of Master Craftsman.
