The hand-hammered Clenched Fist Bracelet by Athens-based goldsmith Ilias Lalaounis conveys the graceful and resilient spirit of its former owner, Arthur Mitchell, one of New York’s great classical dancers. The ballet’s famed director George Balanchine lent his artistic partner Mitchell total support, saying, ""If Mitchell doesn’t dance, then New York City Ballet doesn’t dance.” Streamlined and subtle in design, this gleaming gold form captures Mitchell’s power and style as an artist and trailblazer. the classic, Born in Athens, Lalaounis (1920-2013) is an iconic jewelry maker of the 20th century. The third generation of a family of goldsmiths and watchmakers from Delphi, he became the first goldsmith to be honored by the Institut de France, Academie des Beaux Arts et des Lettres, for his inspired contribution to the art of jewelry creation.
