This one-of-a-kind basket was created by Iizuka Rōkansaii to facilitate ikebana flower arrangements. Made of Madake bamboo, it was formed using a square plaiting technique on the base with freestyle twining around double verticals and wrapping. The incised signature on the bottom reads Rōkansai saku (Made by Rōkansai).

The basket comes with the original lacquered bamboo otoshi (water container) and with the original fitted sugi-wood tomobako storage box inscribed outside Hanakago (Flower basket) and inscribed and signed on the inside Mei Gyofu (Named: “Fisherman”) and Rōkansai saku (Made by Rōkansai) with interlinked seals reading Rō, Kan and Sai. Iizuka Rōkansai is the most important Japanese basket maker of the 20th century.
