Signed by the artist, Hervé Wahlen’s Haxe Sculpture is a unique object, hand-hammered and patinated in brass and copper, gilded with 24K gold leaf on the inside. It was crafted using dinanderie, a traditional copper-working technique perfected by medieval artisans in the Belgian manufacturing town of Dinant. The technique involves hammering, firing, and shaping sheets of copper into fluid three-dimensional objects. The result is an array of organic forms with highly tactile skins, patinated and buffed with beeswax.
Born in Oran, Wahlen is a Paris-based sculptor and self-taught master of engraving and hammering technique. His work has been widely exhibited in galleries and museums around the world, including Barry Friedman Ltd. in New York and the Fond National d'Art Contemporain in Paris.
