The Fruit Dish, designed in 1956, is among Wegner’s most elegant pieces. Several Danish designers tried their hand at making wooden vessels, but Wegner went new ways creating a synthesis of table and dish. It was part of Wegner’s mindset that a piece of furniture was not put into production before it had been thoroughly tested. When he had created a new piece, he took it home and tried it out over a period of time in order to discover possible weaknesses or ways to improve its design and functionality. The dish was made in close collaboration between Wegner and master Cabinetmaker Johannes Hansen.
