The Distex is the first in a series of armchairs designed by Gio Ponti for Cassina between 1953 and 1958. It stands out for its multifaceted shape and elongated line. The first version had closed sides and tapered wooden feet; the next had open sides and a tubular metal structure. This armchair is one of the most extravagant models of those years. It's upholstered with a particularly courageous fabric designed by artist Lucio Fontana. The price excludes taxes, shipping, and crating.
Born in Milan, legendary designer Gio Ponti (1891-1979) wore many hats throughout his prolific career: architect, designer, artist, decorator, theorist, lecturer, editor. His impact on the course of 20th-century Italian design is immeasurable.
