This Jacaranda, formica, and iron cabinet was designed by Geraldo De Barros and produced by Unilabor in 1955. This design is referenced in “Unilabor” published by SENAC in 2004 (p. 147; figure 1012).
Born in Chavantes, Barros (1923-1998) was a pioneer of experimental photography in Brazil and is one of the main exponents of the Concretism and abstract movements in the Brazilian avant-garde. In 1954, together with a Dominican Priest, he founded the Cooperativa Unilabor for the production of modernist furniture, with the goal of providing high-quality affordable furniture to all social classes.
