Gerald Mak, a young graduate from Ceramics and Glass MA at the Royal College of Art, questions identity constructs and human relationships within his work, whilst referencing his own exploration of self as a Hong Kong born artist living in London. With an inquisitive and playful approach to making, Gerald's "Desire for Communications and Relationships" series illustrates hand gestures as a communicative tool; from the artist's own gestures to the hand signs used during protests in Hong Kong. Each vessel is unique and depicts overlapping hands carved onto thrown porcelain produced during a residency in China's city of porcelain, Jingdezhen.
