This dining table, created by George Nakashima in 1965, features an American black walnut single-board top with two East Indian rosewood butterflies. Single-board, free-form Nakashima dining table tops are rare and highly valued. This top is very highly figured and irregular, making it particularly desirable.
Nakashima (1905-1990) was an American architect and furniture maker who is considered to be the father of the American Craft movement.
