Gaetano Pesce’s Scaffale Autoritratto del suo Autore (Self-Portrait Shelf) was created in a single monumental event, where a team of over 20 assistants helped Pesce fill a mold with over 285 kg of resin. Each color was mixed separately by the Maestro himself. As each five-gallon bucket of resin was poured, the colors mixed inside the mold to create a unique pattern.
Born in La Spezia, Pesce (b. 1939) is an Italian architect, designer, and urban planner. Over the course of his 50+ year career, he continuously pioneered experimental approaches to materials, processes, and forms and along the way pushed the boundaries of design discourse ever forward. He is known especially for this signature work in resin.
