Elias and Yousef Anastas have donated this unique, signed drawing, entitled Amoud. According to the architects: “Amoud is a stone column made out of collected stone architectural ruins. The different stone elements come from different periods, illustrating varying construction techniques. It addresses the possibilities of reusing stone as a structural material, as well as the finite resource that it embodies—and its consequent effect on the natural landscape. The drawing is a detail of the assembly of these stones.”

Elias and Yousef Anastas studied architecture in Paris before returning to work together in Bethlehem. Their studio brings together architecture practices, furniture-making, research projects and cultural initiatives. They founded Local Industries, an industrial furniture-making network, in 2012 and SCALES, a research department, in 2016. Their most recent works include Qamt, a stone bench acquired by the Victoria & Albert Museum, the Hebron courthouse, and Stonematters, an ongoing, experimentation-based research project focusing on the possibilities of stone usage in contemporary architecture. They’ve also co-founded Radio alHara, a community based online radio station, and are about to launch The Wonder Cabinet in Bethlehem, a multipurpose cultural platform bringing together artisans and artists.
