Fascinated by maritime history, artist Duke Riley creates allegorical narratives about the over-development and environmental destruction of waterfront communities in the United States. Critiquing our reliance on single-use plastic, this series consists of plastic trash gathered from beaches that Riley has painted to resemble scrimshaw (engravings historically made on whale bones and teeth).
