Inspired in equal parts by the machinery designed by Leonardo da Vinci in the Sforza era and the symbolism of early industrial era mills, Domenico Orefice's Mulino Bookcases (2018) are both familiar and unexpected. Handcrafted in solid wood and surprisingly sturdy, these bookcases are offered two sizes that work together or separately. The small version is made of walnut and measures 63.5 x 63.5 x 29 cm. These designs are open edition made to order.

Orefice is a Milan-based designer and art director. He founded his eponymous studio in 2010, focusing on branding, product design, and interiors. In 2018, he established the brand Man de Milan (Hands of Milan), creating furniture, objects, and textiles that explore the history and identity of the city—all made in collaboration with artisans from Milan and Lombardy. Orefice’s work frequently celebrates traditional processes, combining them with new technologies and materials to create dynamic contemporary objects.
