"The ear pendants may look simple,” writes jewelry scholar Ruth Peltaon in her respected tome on David Webb, “but that's just the jeweler’'s sleight of hand.” Indeed, these mid-century stunners are far from simple. The fabulous interplay between the deepest black enamel and the brightest polished gold, the elongated circular feature that dangles, the rectangular portion that sits properly on the ear, and the alternating horizontal and vertical ribbing in the gold all serve to produce a subtle complexity hidden in a wonderfully bold design.
