Cut from a block of elm that was preserved for millennia beneath a lake in Japan, Jihei Murase carefully sculpted a beautifully round and ridged tea caddy. Using a golden powder and clear lacquer, the inner chamber gleams brightly in the light. Murase preserved the original coloration of the ancient wood using clear urushi lacquer as an external coat.
