Rather than a final vermillion coat over innumerable glazes of black lacquer, Jihei Murase has inverted the negoro varnishing method, creating a unique rendition of the nakatsugi tea caddy. The caddy is decorated in small ridges carved individually by hand with iron tools made by Murase himself.
