The Williamsburg Collection by Claude Lalanne was commissioned by the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation for the Lila Acheson Wallace Garden in 1984. The pieces from the collection are cast in bronze to resemble natural fronds of reed. The Chaise Williamsburg was produced in 1985 in an edition of 100.
Among the most unique and dynamic creative partnerships of the 20th century, Les Lalannes—that is, Claude (1924-2019) and François-Xavier (1927-2008) Lalanne—are revered for their highly imaginative, finely crafted objets d’art. Their work can be found in the most important collections around the world, including the Cooper Hewitt Museum, Museé Nationale d’Art Moderne-Centre Georges Pompidou, and Museé d’Histoire Naturelle in Paris. Les Lalannes’ affiliation with the Galerie Mitterrand began in the early 1990s.
